Sami and Ryan | Grounds for Sculpture Photographer

There’s something magical about proposals 💍 The quiet anticipation while hiding behind a wall or a bush. The sound of footsteps drawing closer. And then- her face lighting up when she realizes she’s saying yes to forever 🥹

When Ryan reached out to me at the end of June, his excitement was contagious. He wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Sami, at Grounds for Sculpture. From the very first conversation, I could tell this moment was going to be special. We quickly set a date, hopped on a call to go over all the details, and began dreaming up the perfect plan.

Ryan wanted every detail to be just right. We talked about coordinating outfits, choosing flowers, and keeping communication subtle so Sami wouldn’t suspect a thing. We even met at Grounds for Sculpture to scout the perfect spot. The plan was simple but clever: Ryan would tell Sami they were going on a date to Rat’s Restaurant, just fancy enough for her to dress up without raising any red flags.

As we walked the grounds, I tossed out a few location ideas. But then, Ryan noticed a beautiful archway draped in lush greenery. It was romantic, secluded, and conveniently along the path to the restaurant. In that instant, we both knew- we’d found the spot.

In the weeks leading up to the proposal, Ryan thought through every detail. He told Sami the date was in honor of National Girlfriend’s Day. He sent the ring ahead with family so there’d be no suspicious bulge in his pocket. He convinced her to postpone her nail appointment until the week of, telling her it’d be a shame to mess them up while she was busy moving into their new apartment. And when Sami changed outfits last minute? He rolled with it like a pro.

When the day finally came, I tucked myself behind a stone wall with both their families. My cameras were ready, my heart racing. We waited. And waited. And then, there they were- walking toward the arch, Sami completely unaware of what was about to happen.

Ryan reached into the greenery for the hidden ring box. Sami’s eyes widened. And in that moment, the world seemed to pause. There was laughter, tears, and so much happiness. And when she turned to see their families stepping out from the hiding spots? Pure joy.

Afterwards, we went around the location to take photos with the newly engaged couple, and lots of sweet family photos! Sami and Ryan picked up all of the posing so quickly and are naturals in front of the camera! Plus, you can see the joy and the love between these two beautiful people. I have so many favorites and am so excited to share many of them today!

To Ryan and Sami — thank you for letting me share in such a beautiful moment of your love story. Here’s to a lifetime filled with joy, laughter, and adventures you’ll treasure forever.
